I’ve always had a sweet tooth. Well, maybe not always, but for a good chunk of my life. No matter how much I had, I craved more. I ate sugar-free stuff a lot (read: Splenda added), and drank many splenda/stevia spiked teas and coffees. About a month ago I cut out all artificial sweeteners (as well as stevia) and have been letting myself enjoy the real goods via, well, real sugar and fresh fruit.
Let’s try to predict what I’m going to say next…I’m sure you know…yes, my cravings have reduced a LOT. I now drink my beverages without any added sweeteners and enjoy desserts either sweetened with fruit or with actual sugar. My energy levels are great and I’ve been feeling a lot better overall. Obviously, a big contributor is having all the extra nutrients and vitamins from the fruit. Feeling great sparks more feelings of wanting to continue feeling great, which means not depriving mysel while maintaining a healthy and nutritious diet. After getting bored from just eating my usual greek yogurt and fruit, I decided to mix things up a bit. First stop: ice cream for dessert!
The recipe can be made with a variety of ingredients to flavor the ice cream base, and you can skip the protein when whipping up a batch. I like to add vanilla protein powder in to keep it frothier and airier. Also, I like ice cream after gym!! The batch is BIG and filling, but oh so good for you. Enjoy the fit body!
Airy Whipped Strawberry-Banana Protein Bomb
– 2 frozen bananas
– 1/2 scoop (about 20 grams, or 1/2 oz) natural, organic vanilla protein
– 1 cup strawberries
– 1/4 cup water (skip if skipping protein)
– 1 tbsp hemp seeds (optional)
-fruit of choice for topping (optional)
Directions: You guessed it, dump it all in and blend blend blend!! Start by blending the first three ingredients, then slowly add water (you might need more or less depending on protein powder). The consistency should start getting smoother and frothier. Continue blending until completely smooth (don’t add any more water, unless you want a milkshake!). Top with hemp seeds and fruit of choice.
Feel free to experiment with the recipe. Keep the banana (and protein, if you like) base and add in 2 teaspoons of matcha powder. Or add some blueberries instead of strawberries. Or peaches. Or mangoes! Go nuts with the toppings too if you like- literally, add some nuts! Make it as yummy as you want.
