Backstage with Aveda at the Leanne Marshall Show
The energy in the room is palpable. To my left, Aveda’s Artistic Director of Makeup, Janell Gleason, preps attentive makeup artists for the show’s look. I had the chance to see Janell in action as she works her magic on model, Kristen van Valkenhoef.
The model’s skin is toned with Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics™ Toning Mist, followed by a moisturizing Tourmaline charged hydrating creme. With the focus being on the eyes, Janell starts with a warm copper shade applying it to the lash line all the way to the crease, blending it with the burnt orange then using the satin gold and yellow eyeshadow mixed as the highlight. She lined the eyes with Petal Essence™ eye definer in black orchid, smudging it for a subtle definition. Finishing the eye look with Mosscara™, Janell’s technique is to place the wand at the base of the lashes, wiggling the wand left and right and giving the illusion of volume and length.
The eyeshadow fallouts are brushed away to prime the skin for the next steps. A lightweight tinted moisturizer is blended into the skin, and Inner light™ concealer is used on top to camouflage any under eye discoloration and balance out complexion. Eyebrows are skipped and the makeup is set with a light dusting of Inner Light™ mineral loose powder. The look is completed with a lip pigment for a rich, creamy finish.
