Dress Up Wonderland: Drawn To Sequins

Confession: I’m in love with exaggerated shapes! Pannieres are my favorite historical pieces because of the way they inflate the hips to ridiculous volumes. I wish my small NYC closet were able to support grandiose sculptural pieces. Maybe it’s best that I have limited space considering the pieces are more novelty than everyday wear. To emulate the volume, I used some metal hangers to shape the under-wire for the black silk-chiffon skirt. I attached the metal to a thin belt, which I cinched underneath the skirt over a black sequin mini-dress. Not a practical thing to do for everyday, but it achieves more dramatic shape in a pinch.
