Before You Buy: The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA

Product: The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA
Price: $6.80
Where to Buy: Sephora

Using It:

Apply the lactic acid directly to your face once a day in the evening. You can start slowly every other day and dilute it with another product. Because this product contains alpha hydroxy acid, your skin may be more sensitive to sunlight throughout the day, so make sure to use SPF daily. Keep away from eye area and do patch testing to ensure no irritation occurs.

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA Review:

The formula contains 10% lactic acid in addition to hyaluronic acid to mildly exfoliate skin in addition to locking in and absorbing moisture. Now, this was a bit naive and mind-blowing for me, but I recently realized that The Ordinary contains more than the main ingredients listed. I thought it was pure formulas, but they contain other things depending on what you’re buying. Luckily, this formula contains only goodies for your skin, and lactic acid is still the second ingredient on this short list, ensuring it’s one of the more powerful ingredients.

This lactic acid solution also happens to contain Tasmanian pepperberry which helps with inflammation and reducing irritation from the exfoliation. Excellent news for all sensitive skin sufferers out there! My skin tends to be on the sensitive side, so I was pleasantly surprised by the extra care shown by The Ordinary team. Lactic acid is already one of the milder exfoliators on the market, making it suitable for everyday use. Because of this, it’s also a very good intro to acids for someone new to skincare routines.

I LOVE this formula. It’s fairly runny and very absorbent, so I apply it directly to a freshly cleansed face before my night-time moisturizing routine. I immediately notice a radiance boost and wake up fresh-faced every time the next morning! I’m concentrating on products with anti-aging properties in my skincare routine, and this formula is perfect because lactic acid at 10%+ concentrations improves appearance of wrinkles, helps thicken up skin and firms it.

The concentration and pH value of the product greatly affect lactic acid’s effectiveness. Both pH and pKa are 3.8 in this formula, so we have a winner!
