The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% Review:

If you have rosacea or acne, this little tube is going to be your holy grail. Typically, azelaic acid in 10% + concentrations is a prescription medication in the US. Luckily, this formula lets you enjoy its benefits without going to the doc or shelling out those super-high prescription premiums.

The texture is akin to a smooth primer. Although it’s not extremely spreadable and you need to use a bit more than a silicone-based primer, it feels very smooth and silky on the skin. Unfortunately, rubbing it in causes some micro-exfoliation, so make sure to gently tap into the skin with a light hand to reduce the chances of it pilling. I found layering it was fairly hard since pilling happens almost instantly, so it’s probably best to stick to using this in the evening only.

I have combination/normal skin that teeters on the edge of sensitive, so the formula not containing any fragrance or alcohol is a godsend for me. While I’m not the biggest fan of the texture (it’s almost powdery once applied) I did enjoy the fact that the ingredients are straight to the point. Azelaic acid is produced naturally by yeast that lives on the skin. Although it’s an acid, it’s very gentle on the skin and acts as an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. It’s especially useful in reducing redness and fading dark spots, to even out skin tone.

While my skin doesn’t feel different after use, it does look calmer and less red or splotchy. I started alternating the suspension in my evening skincare routine as a result. Thumbs up!
