Moroccanoil Sun Lotion SPF 30 Review:

I became obsessed with SPF textures after a Japan trip that led me to discover way too many SPF lotions. While I tend to stick with my Biore Aqua Sunscreen on the face, I packed this Moroccanoil Sun Lotion SPF 30 for a recent Florida trip. Seeing as I’ve been hibernating during the winter season, I was hitting a dose of strong rays while very pale. Meaning, I needed a reliable SPF lotion I could apply that would deliver.

This sleek bottle was more than enough for a week spent lounging by poolside and beach. First, the texture is incredibly lightweight. Applying it was a breeze, as it rubbed in seamlessly without every leaving white streaks or unsightly residue. It was akin to a very lightweight moisturizer.

Second, the scent was nice and light. While it wasn’t the signature Moroccanoil scent, it also wasn’t overpowering SPF fragrance. Some people mention it’s a little powdery smelling, but I didn’t find the light scent offensive in the least bit. I’m not big on any fragrance in my products, so I typically stay away from a strong scent, to begin with.

The big winner here? Its hydration factor! This baby not only protects against UVA and UVB, but it also hydrates the skin to the point where it’s soft, smooth and glimmering in the sun. My skin wasn’t sticky after application, rather, the lotion absorbs almost immediately before getting dressed. This resulted in soft and smooth skin without any residue rubbing off on clothing.

Would I buy this again? Only if they stop selling in China, as it would make them truly cruelty-free at that point.

  • NOT a cruelty-free brand since they started selling in China as of 2016.
  • Alcohol-free, but not fragrance-free.
  • Oxybenzone (6%) is a very absorbent sunscreen component that can penetrate into the bloodstream, which makes it a controversial ingredient.
  • Argan oil is an incredibly effective moisturizer and anti-oxidant for skin.
  • Methylisothiazolinone is a preservative not recommended for leave-on products due to its irritant properties. Many countries are considering outright banning this ingredient in cosmetic products.
