Using It:

As straightforward as it comes! Make sure your lips are exfoliated beforehand because this formula will accentuate any dry parts. Apply at the center and blend outward. You can use a lip brush to create crisp edges, which are perfect for this velvety matter formulas.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick Review:

I tried the universally flattering “Heathers” shade, which is described as brownish oxblood. The shade is beyond gorgeous, heavily pigmented and works very well even with my extremely pale skin. I didn’t use a lip brush for application, but even with the applicator tip, the line was very crisp and beautiful! I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to perfectly overline my lips and create a gorgeous pout.

My next test? Staying power. I’m a ravenous eater, meaning, I finish my meals within minutes. That doesn’t mean I smother my entire mouth with food, but I’m not dainty. I’m somewhere between normal and “I’ve got stuff to do so I’m going to just take care of this.” I tackled a salad I pre-made earlier that day while wearing the beautiful lip color.

How did the lipstick do?

Ok, so maybe my eating style is the culprit. Let’s keep giving it a chance. Except my lips felt like they were bleeding 10 minutes later because the formula is so drying! I’m not a stranger to matte lipstick, but unfortunately, this drying sensation is more prominent than other comparable lipsticks on the market. The cakey formula also tends to get crumbly on the lips and flakes off at the slightest brush of the finger. Not the best sensation, and with so many great formulas on the market, this one might be a hard pass.

Notable Ingredients

  • No alcohol or fragrance in sight, which means it’s sensitive-skin friendly!
  • It’s cruelty-free! However, the product isn’t vegan or animal-friendly due to its use of carmine. Carmine, which is derived from an insect called Coccus cacti, provides a bright red pigment.
  • The formula contains several different silicones: Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, and Cyclomethicone. These make the formula smooth and creamy, but may cause the extra dryness when used in conjunction with the kaolin in the formula.
