An Easy Way to Boost Pride: The Giving Guide

While it’s impossible to solve all of world’s problems, the practice of responsibility and sustainability is well within our power. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and I’m inviting you to join me in raising not only awareness, but also the funds for the cause. If you’re wondering where your dollars are actually going when you purchase these products, I’ve included a list of charities along with donation amounts. Most companies pledge their portion of proceeds from sales to Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Plenty others choose support foundations such as Look Good Feel Better, which is dedicated to improve self-esteem and quality of life for cancer patients.

Cancer existed for thousands of years prior to our modern civilization. The research in the field spurred a bit over the last century encouraging prevention. Still, prevention isn’t a catch-all solution, and cancer research is extremely relevant as long as we don’t have a cure. I’ve been lucky enough not to have experience with cancer in my immediate family, but I have experienced another severely underfunded illness. My initial cynical feelings about stalled research resolved into a deep drive for social consciousness. So join up!
