The S/S16 season of New York Fashion Week may be over, but the trends are only beginning to make a dent in the fashion market. I’m really excited about the fact that some of the fall trends wedged their way into spring, like the multiple-slit skirts, raw edges and fun sequins!
You’ll notice quite a few familiar trends just looking through the designs, but let’s break down what we can expect a bit more:
- Skittles Colors: Don’t get bogged down with monochrome. I’m all for grays, blacks and whites, but color is desperately trying to bring some fun into your life! Check Out: Altuzarra, Mara Hoffman, Libertine, Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier, Naeem Khan, Nicole Miller, Reem Acra, Trina Turk
- Off-The-Shoulder: Fall 2015 is seeing quite a few one shoulder looks. Spring strips it down further and exposes the top, with completely open shoulders. Check Out: Diesel Black Gold, J. Crew, Herve Leger by Max Azria, Hood by Air, Jil Sander Navy, Mara Hoffman, Milly, Monse, Nanette Lepore, Sophie Theallet, Tamara Mellon
- Raw Edges: Frayed hems are in this fall, and they’ll stay hot well into next summer. Check Out: Derek Lam, Edun, Jason Wu, M. Patmos, Nili Lotan, Norma Kamali, Osklen, Simon Miller
- Mesh: Athletic pieces are here to stay. Alexander Wang made us love mesh few seasons ago, and quite a few designers followed suit by elevating mesh pieces into high-fashion space. Check Out: Alexander Wang, Baja East, Clover Canyon, Dion Lee, Lela Rose, Marchesa, Misha Nonoo, Novis, Proenza Schouler, Sophie Theallet, Tamara Mellon
- Micropleats: We’re seeing a lot of split pleats (thanks, Proenza) and next season we’re graduating to the micro territory! Check Out: Hugo Boss, Carolina Herrera, J. Mendel, Tibi, Sally LaPointe, Tome, Zero Maria Cornejo
- Pinstripes: They typically remind me of the ’80s, but the updated designs quickly erased bad suit imagery from my mind. Check Out: Timo Weiland, Veronica Beard, Vivienne Tam, Phillip Lim
- Crochet: Tommy Hilfiger sent out playful models in super cute crochet bathing suits! Check Out: Delpozo, Anna Sui, Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore
- American Inspiration: Some interpretations are more subtle than others, but the Americana details made their way into plenty of pieces. Check Out: Marc Jacobs, Coach, Lacoste, Ulla Johnson
- Sequin: I’m a girl, therefore I love sequin. Simple as that. Thank you SS16! Check Out: J. Crew, Marc Jacobs, Nicole Miller, Prabal Gurung, Sally LaPointe, Tibi, Vera Wang
- Tie–Dye: I don’t think I’ll be sporting any tie-dye designs, but the extra subtle dyes are far from hippie inspired! Check Out: Baja East, Thakoon, Raquel Allegra
