I’m a victim of self-sabotaging my delicate skin around the eye area in my younger years. The tugging and pulling, harsh scrubbing and not thoroughly cleansing has definitely taken a toll which I’m now trying to reverse. I stopped my torturous eye makeup removal techniques fairly early, and I’d hate to find out what my eyes would look like if I continued past that stopping point. I think the problem is fairly common with women who are either in a rush or deem their makeup remover slightly ineffective so they put some ‘elbow grease’ into it. You know if that’s you. The problem is exacerbated when waterproof makeup comes into play. Don’t get me started on that dilemma.
The first step in preventing those pesky wrinkles around the eyes is to actually use a makeup remover! Majority of people don’t bother with that specific step and skip directly to cleansing cloths or facial wash. What type of remover is completely up to you, it could be store bought or one that you make (an easy DIY remover: olive oil or coconut oil!). The technique matters though.
Saturate a cotton pad with makeup remover, then press to your lids and HOLD for 30 seconds. This gives the remover time to loosen the pigments. Once the pigments are loose, swipe off gently and cleanse as usual. Done. Skin saved.
